Last fall, a dedicated member of the NWCA personally hand delivered a letter to many businesses in North Weymouth. The letter, simply put, stated that Bridge Street has become overgrown with weeds, vandalism and rot. We were simply asking business owners to do their best to make their property look aesthetically pleasing.
In order to support our vision of a better looking neighborhood, the association has decided to embark on a monthly clean-up of North Weymouth starting in April. We are calling this our “2010 Bridge-to-Bridge Clean Up”. Clean ups will take place the second Saturday of every month at 10 am. We are hoping to just do trash pick-up, simple landscaping (if needed), and possible light painting. Depending on how many volunteers come out, these events would only be about 1 -2 hours long. Garbage bags will be provided. Here is the tentative schedule:
April 10th – Beals Park (corner of Athens St. & Bridge St.)
May 8th – Great Hill Park (top of Bradley Rd.)
June 12th – Great Esker Park (Bridge St. Entrance, behind Margarita’s)
July 10th – George Lane Beach (End of Neck St.)
August 14th – Wessagusset Beach (Wessagusset Rd.)
September 11th – Smith Beach (Fore River Rd. & Birchbrow Rd.)
October 9th – Webb State Park (End of River St.)
These events are not just limited to association members – all interested people are invited to attend. Kids are more than welcome to come out to lend a hand.
If you are associated with any local Boy Scout, Girl Scout or other volunteer group, we’d be happy to have your group join us – possibly to help out in earning badges.
In case of rain, we will postpone the events to Sunday at 1 pm. We will update this webpage and our Facebook Fan Page with this information.
Lastly, if you have any supplies you’d like to donate (i.e. paint brushes, rollers, paint, garbage bags, etc.) please contact Becky at 617-610-2971.
We’re looking forward to getting out in the community this Spring & Summer to do our part to help North Weymouth! We hope that you can join us! Even if you can attend just one of our clean-ups, it will make a huge difference.
